Both are fields where having the right equipment can be vital, and where, on many occasions, the performance and abilities of skilled amateurs is on a par with that of the professionals. There is of course another far stronger link; many photographers will also be outdoor enthusiasts and vice versa.

Despite sounding like some kind of washing powder technology that stops your colours running and still keeps whites whiter than white, colour management is all about ensuring that what you see on your computer monitor is what you get out of your printer. The ColorMunki X-Rite Photo is a device that helps you manage your colours, and one that is excellent on several counts…it is by far and away the easiest colour calibration tool I have used to date.

The cause is particularly pertinent for me as last year I suffered a heart scare, where I was rushed into hospital and kept there for a few days. Fortunately everything turned out to be ok, but the expertise and dedication of the staff who looked after me left me wanting to give something back. It was perfect, a no brainer – our grand adventure was planned.

I’ve known Chris a long time and I hire his studio from time to time. Over the years I’ve watched his commercial photographic business grow from strength to strength.

I wanted some means of support for the camera, even if it was just for the occasional self-timed snap. I looked at all kinds of options including bean-bags and a wealth of mini tripods, and then a colleague offered a suggestion.
“You need a Joby!” he said.
“That’s right.” I replied, “A neat little jobby to support the camera, but what?”
“No, no, no. Not a jobby, a JOBY. A Gorillapod.”
