Natural light is all the rage these days but that doesn’t change the fact that sometimes you need more light than you have. Ambient light is great but it’s very… ambient. Whether it’s to add some fill in, open up a dark corner, or freeze action, a flash can add an extra dimension to your shooting.

The Olympus E-P1 is a beautiful piece of kit; it’s not all about the tech at all. It looks and feels like a treasured 35mm film camera from the ’60s. It’s easy to make new stuff sort-of-space-age (black plastic?) which usually works for a month or two, but capturing a timeless but nostalgic look is much tougher.

The Olympus E-P1 ‘Digital PEN’ was launched with a great fanfare – an exciting new segment of cameras had arrived. Then the Panasonic GF1 arrived and dethroned the Digital PEN. The response from Olympus, less than 5 months after the E-P1 was launched (16th June), is the new E-P2.

In the web pictures I’d seen of the Olympus PT-E06 I wasn’t really struck by any one feature. In the flesh however this new case is an impressive upgrade. The PT-E06 looks just right.

The unassuming, though admittedly cobby, Olympus UFL-2 has been something which I and a lot of other nerds have been waiting for. It’s nothing more or less than the first completely dedicated digital flash for diving.

You have to hand it to Olympus, for a comparatively ‘tiny’ Japanese corporation they stream out interesting things at an impressive rate. Some smooth evolutions, some wild innovations. Now the E-620 pitches up as the world’s smallest SLR with in-body image stabilisation.

On 4th July 2009, the new and much-talked about Olympus E-P1 PEN camera is coming to our Norwich camera showroom for visitors to touch, try and even buy – if it tickles your fancy of course!

It’s here: all the jealousy, envy, and desire Olympus warned us about. The new Olympus E-P1 is a micro four-thirds digital camera with funky retro styling, modelled on the Olympus Pen series (launched in the 1959).

Those of you who endeavour to keep abreast of photographic news, gossip and technological developments will not have failed to miss the tantalising teaser campaign from Olympus over the past weeks. But just what is under that slightly naughty looking, red satin cloth…

What better way to test the Olympus Mju Tough 8000 digital camera then, than to give it to three miniature demolition experts and send them out in to the world (or the garden) to take photographs with it? Just how tough is Tough? Let the games begin…
