“As seen on BBC One’s ‘Lost Land of the Tiger’”. That’s what the publicity blurb says, so as I consider how I’m going to set about testing and reviewing the Bushnell Trophy Cam, I can’t help but feel that any footage I get is going to be somewhat dull by comparison. Still, I’m sure I can find something to do with it – just one question; what exactly is the Bushnell Trophy Cam?

You can be forgiven for not having come across the diminutive GoPro HD Hero before – it’s not what you might call a main-stream camera. Put simply, it’s a small, compact and easy to use HD camcorder and stills camera, capable of recording video in full 1080P high definition or capturing great quality 5 megapixel still photos. So what exactly is it that makes the HD Hero worthy of note? In a word, this…

If you’re a kid, they’re called comics. If you’re a big-kid, they’re called Graphic Novels. Whatever your take on these picture-books, much of the artwork and imagery associated with them is both striking and impressive. A Warehouse Express colleague stumbled across this tutorial online which shows how to turn a photo into a ‘Sin City’ style image in Photoshop. I’m rather impressed by the result – see what you think.

Daniel McMahon is an enthusiastic and talented Photoshop advocate. He’s also a huge movie buff, with his particular genre of choice being B movie horror and sci-fi films. Little surprise, then, that when I asked him to see what he could create using just Photoshop Elements, whatever props he could lay his hands on, and his imagination, he came up with a “Horror Movie Night” poster featuring is own particular brand of macabre artistry. Time-lapse photography is not a new thing and is a well used technique for both film and still photography. We came across this video by photographer Mike Flores, created with time-lapse photography and were stunned by its beauty. Have a look at this video and make your own mind up.
Stop-motion is a similar technique to time-lapse in that in uses still image frames strung together to form a video. Kim Pimmel uses the motor from a record player, a variation of light sources and a Nikon D90 digital SLR to create a hypnotic video. The resulting light show is truly spectacular, and you could achieve it in the living room of a flat.

Surf-wear manufacturer Rip Curl teamed up with Timeslice films to shoot some professional surfers using the “bullet time” technique – a visual effect that allows the audience’s point-of-view to move around the scene at a normal speed while the action unfolding is played out in slow motion. What makes this particular project so interesting to us at Warehouse Express is that the video was created using 52 Canon DSLRs!

You don’t have to take my word for just how good the video capabilities of the latest breed of digital SLR cameras are. There have been many short films put together by various photographer and film-makers to showcase just how good the performance is, and now even the Hollywood big boys are sitting up, taking notice and using these SLRs in their work.

Canon’s release of the S95 has excited comment from many bloggers and review sites as to whether it is a worthy update on its predecessor, the S90, which was very well received but had a couple of niggling problems. With these in mind I took the S95 on holiday with me to Ibiza for a thorough trial run.

On the surface, they look much like any of Sony’s other Alpha SLR cameras, with only a few aesthetic tweaks, additions and changes to set them apart. But who said the camera never lies? Looks, after all, can be deceiving, and if the A33 and A55 look to you just like any other SLR, then the deception is complete.
