Despite pretty much every camera having its own built in metering system these days, meters are still a very handy tool, especially in the studio as it is here that meters really come into their own. Of course you can shoot test after test after test, but what a waste of time when you can just fire the flash, take a meter reading and transfer the information to the camera.

Fortunately the new SpyderCube is neither a Spiderman themed Rubik’s cube nor a Halloween offering from OXO: It’s the ultimate white balance tool for every photographer who loves accurate colour.

When investing several hundred pounds on a flashgun for your Canon camera it is worth ensuring it has the features you are going to need at the same time as ensuring that you are not paying extra for features you’ll never use.

There is only one word in the off-camera flash world: Strobist. It’s an awesome website by David Hobby, dedicated to teaching you how to light effectively with small flashes.

I presented a great seminar last Saturday at a very unusual venue, ‘@ Bristol’ right in the heart of Bristol’s dock area, an area that’s seen a big change over the last ten years.

Last Saturday found me at the foot of the South Downs, one of my favourite parts of England. However I didn’t see much of the Downs that day because I was presenting a one day lighting seminar in a small, dark room!
