It is difficult to overstate the impact that the announcement of the Panasonic G system of Micro Four Thirds cameras had on the photographic world in September 2008. At the photokina trade show in Cologne, Germany, that month, the talk was of little else, and it seemed every manufacturer was either considering something similar or had a camera that would meet the challenge raised by the first model.

Leica is arguably one of the most stylish photography brands in the world and this June they are doing little to dispell that idea by releasing this limited edition version of the Leica M8.

At undoubtedly one of the sexiest stands at Photokina, Leica announced a new, flagship professional DSLR. Although rumour broke a day before the announcement, Leica did a good job of keeping this camera a secret and its sudden appearance and high spec has caused ripples across the photography pond. In the Leica S2 press release, Leica describe it as “nothing less than a watershed event that sets an entirely new performance standard for professional DSLRs.”

The D-Lux 4 and C-Lux 3 are two new compact digital cameras launched by Leica at Photokina 2008. The ethos of both cameras is to provide artistic freedom with outstanding quality, in an alluring and elegant form. The D-Lux 4 and C-Lux 3 would feel instinctive and natural to all photographers, but Leica has tailored each camera to two distinct types of user.
