Tough going on The Ben

I shall start by getting straight to the point; I wanted to buy a tough camera that could accompany me on my climbing, walking and canoeing trips and I’d narrowed my choice down to one of 4 point and shoot cameras; the Panasonic FT3, the Fuji XP30, the Olympus TG-810 and the Pentax WG-1 GPS. As such, in an act of selfless generosity I offered to review of all four during a trip to Scotland to climb Ben Nevis.

The Bushnell Trophy Cam Kit

“As seen on BBC One’s ‘Lost Land of the Tiger’”. That’s what the publicity blurb says, so as I consider how I’m going to set about testing and reviewing the Bushnell Trophy Cam, I can’t help but feel that any footage I get is going to be somewhat dull by comparison. Still, I’m sure I can find something to do with it – just one question; what exactly is the Bushnell Trophy Cam?

Pentax K-5 Review

I have a special place in my heart for Pentax. It’s what started my journey into the world of photography. I jumped on board when WEX asked me to test the new Pentax K5, hoping to bring back some early photography memories and try out a new DSLR.

Olympus XZ-1 – yet another enthusiast camera?

These lens fetish cameras are trying harder than ever to add the SLR magic that people want – even if they don’t know an f/stop from a g-string. Of the enthusiast compacts I’ve tried recently, the XZ-1 strikes the best balance of pros and cons.

Potion Bottles Photoshop walkthrough

Hopefully you’ll have already read the Simple Glass Still Life post on the blog. If you haven’t, you might want to, or this one will make very little sense. Following that post there were several requests for a more detailed step-by-step description of the Photoshop process used to create the digitally manipulated images, so that’s what this is. Don’t say we never listen!

Simple Glass Still Life

Unless you’re extremely efficient when it comes to recycling, the chances are that you may have some ideal still-life subject matter at home. Yes, we’re talking glass. I still have some empty glass bottles waiting to be recycled from last Christmas, but I also have a small collection of interesting bottles that I’ve collected over the years for this very purpose. You see, glass bottles and glass, erm, glasses are ideal still life subjects.

Olympus E-PL2 Review

Although any camera has to stand on its own, the E-PL2 benefits from the retro vibe which the rest of the Pen line is steeped in. It’s a good looking camera from the front and sits between the ultra stylish P1 and the functional PL1.

The Epson Stylus Photo R3000 printer

When did printers get exciting? Seriously, it used to be the case that a printer was just an unsightly lump of plastic that was tucked away in the corner somewhere and used to print out the odd document and, when the technology allowed it, occasional photographs. The R3000 is the latest A3+ desktop printer from the Epson printer maestros and reflects just how far things have come in the world of home printing. I got to try one out at Epson’s HQ near Hemel Hempstead a full month before its official release.
