Dungeness is an intriguing place unlike anywhere else I have ever been in the UK. The vast shingle landscape is dominated by two nuclear power stations. However in their shadow you’ll find, amongst other things, a RSPB nature reserve, a small airport, the world’s smallest public railway, wartime acoustic mirrors and two lighthouses.

Yes, I imagine there are a handful of industrial photographers in this world who wish to take photographs of the inside of blast furnaces and/or incinerators from time to time, but there are many more “normal” photographers who wish to use long-exposure techniques for artistic and creative purposes. Unless you’re extremely efficient when it comes to recycling, the chances are that you may have some ideal still-life subject matter at home. Yes, we’re talking glass. I still have some empty glass bottles waiting to be recycled from last Christmas, but I also have a small collection of interesting bottles that I’ve collected over the years for this very purpose. You see, glass bottles and glass, erm, glasses are ideal still life subjects.
