Yesterday Canon has released 2 NEW compact camera’s to their already well established IXUS range – The Canon IXUS 500 HS (left) and the Canon IXUS 125 HS (right). The two new additions take a new place in the IXUS line up and do not replace any of the current existing models.

It’s that exciting time of year again when new product announcements start rolling in and Canon’s announcement of the high-end PowerShot G1 X compact camera this afternoon is very exciting indeed! Created for professionals and keen enthusiasts alike, the G1 X is a serious bit of kit packed into a relatively small body.

A colleague at work told me about his favourite lens, the “50mm f1.4”. He had used one for a while and could not fault it. With that sort of endorsement it was quite easy to take the plunge and the lens was ordered the same day. That was nearly 3 years ago and since then the 50mm f1.4 is almost permanently attached to my camera.

Yesterday I was given the opportunity to play with a Canon EOS-1D X. It was still one of the factory sample camera bodies so I wasn’t allowed to analyze the image or video quality. However, I was able to test out the new controls and experiment with many of the new features and functions.

This morning Canon have announced their new flagship professional digital SLR – the EOS 1DX. This launch sees the amalgamation of their 1D and 1Ds lines and brings with it an “unparalleled combination of speed, resolution and image quality”.

Before she became a full-time photographer, Sue Flood worked with the BBC for 11 years in their Natural History Unit where she was an Associate Producer on the award-winning series ‘The Blue Planet’, and also more recently on ‘Planet Earth’. This morning Canon have announced the launch of their new advanced compact camera – the Canon PowerShot S100 – the replacement of the highly-acclaimed S95. Over 11 months have passed since the Canon S95 was released, so it was only a matter of time before Canon bought out its shiny new replacement.

I had always thought of the Canon EF 200mm f/2.0 L IS USM as a bit of a unicorn – you hear tales about it and it’s magical qualities, but I very much doubted I would ever have the privilege of shooting with one myself. That all changed the moment the doorbell rang.

Canon have just released details of three new digital cameras – the SX150, the latest in their range of PowerShot compacts, in addition to two brand new IXUS compacts: the 1100 HS and the 230 HS. All three cameras are packed with a range of tweaks, improvements and new features…

The lens is extremely well built. On mounting it to my Canon 5D Mark II for the first time I noticed this straight away. The metal gives it a tank like feeling and it will easily deal with the knocks and bumps of daily life.
