Bowens have just released a new version of the very popular Bowens Pulsar Radio Trigger, a system that allows you to shoot cordless without a sync lead. Designed to work with the Bowens Gemini Classic, the Gemini R and the Gemini Pro range, it replaces the older style transmitter with a brand new mini version.

Many photographers looking to make their first few steps into the world of studio photography are often put off very early on by the complexity of studio lighting and the vast range of kits on offer. To extend a helping hand to all frustrated studio beginners, and to challenge myself to see exactly what can be achieved with just the most basic of studio flash equipment, I set up an entry-level 2 head lighting kit in the WEX studio, grabbed a white pop-up reflector, kidnapped a couple of WEX employees as models and started experimenting.

For the benefit of any of you that are interested in the Photokina happenings, but didn’t want to travel to Germany, weren’t able to go to Germany, or, like some of us, had to stay behind and work while your colleagues went to Germany, we will be updating you with all the latest goings-on via the WEX blog and Twitter. What’s more, in an exciting new venture for WEX, we will be bringing you a visitor’s-eye view of some of the stands and products in the form of WEX TV video clips!

When I visited this year’s Focus exhibition there was a bit of a buzz on the Bowens stand. The reason they were so upbeat was that they had just developed another new model! It wasn’t on show, but I did get to see a pre production version…

…it turns out that the humble macro lens doesn’t have to be reserved for occasions when you’re knee deep in swamp water and face to face with a frog, or on your belly in a meadow chasing a ladybird through the grass…

Remote controls are a way of life these days; we either love them or hate them, not all of us understanding what every button does! However using a remote control in a dark studio makes a lot of sense, especially when you have multiple heads to operate.

I reviewed the new Bowens Pro 500 and Pro 750 models a little while ago and if you read the review, you’ll know that I’m already a fan. As promised, Bowens have just released the Pro 1000 and Pro 1500 models to the market. These two models not only complete the Gemini Pro range, but also mark the completion of Bowens whole programme to overhaul their entire monobloc range in 2009.

This month saw the introduction of another new Gemini, the Gemini Pro. The Bowens Gemini Pro range will be available in powers ranging from 500w to 1500w.

Last Saturday found me at the foot of the South Downs, one of my favourite parts of England. However I didn’t see much of the Downs that day because I was presenting a one day lighting seminar in a small, dark room!
