Good news! Olympus has seen the error of their ways and they are soon to release parts diagrams and the purchase of individual parts should be possible (though only time will tell how fast a service this will be). This will only be within the UK, though with luck it might spread if it proves successful for them.

Hi Richard,
Hope you're enjoying the E520. I'm envious of those little Athena ports, they look great - easier to protect and lighter for travel. The lenses are the towering strength of the E-system, I don't use the 14-42 enough as I get distracted by either super wide or super small scenes but it's cracking. As far as parts in the UK go it was a real a issue around the PT-020 in early '04. The European head office is German and they still keep a close eye on them... which means they can bought from Germany :-) That large underwater supplier has been pushing the same line for a while, (nearly 6 years!) prehaps they prefer to concentrate on lines with better margins? Very sorry to hear about the turnround time on your repair. I don't think I've been unusually fortunate with the good behaviour of my PT housings - I just rinse and clean them when I've done playing... though I always keep them away from other divers ;-)

Happy diving

I have the PT-E05 paired with Athena's OPD-SZ14-42 Port, which I imported myself, which is specifically for the Olympus 14-42mm lens. I can confirm Rob's comments for the PT-E06 apply to the PT-E05 as well and I have found it to be a very good housing. However, it should be noted that the Olympus repairs service leaves a lot to be desired. They will not release a parts digram so that the purchase of individual parts is next to impossible and if they repair them they go to Portugal. I have just had a warranty repair done on a control knob and it has taken 7 weeks. These problems have caused at least one large supplier of underwater equipment to refuse to stock the housings.
