Hi Ian,
how does the D300s stack up against the D2X, and is it worth the change for the improved low light and image processing

regards

I am considering the purchase of a D300s, this review more than most has probably made my mind up for me. Positively I might add.

Hi Ian,

The dual memory card slots are useful, especially for backup rather than overflow - but I found the mixed types a bit frustrating. Personally I'd rather have two CF slots like the D3, but I can see the advantage of 1 SD & 1 CF for broader appeal (e.g. D90 upgraders with SD, or D200 upgraders with CF) + easy access to the SD card with a laptop slot, as you mention.

I see from you're site that you do wedding photography - so a feature like this is indeed essential!

Cheers,

recently bought this camera & was disappointed at high iso performance, I will try switching off the D lighting, thanks for the tip! The main attraction of this camera for professionals is the dual card slot, which you do not mention. I think it's the only camera in this price range to have this feature. This helps preserve my sanity as all files can be backed up to a second card & images can be easily loaded into a sd slotted laptop on site. I know card failure (and hence heart failure!) is uncommon but it can happen! why take the risk? I hope dual slots become the norm.

What a wonderful write-up for this camera. Everything was explained very clearly and was easy to understand. I have just purchased this for my son for Christmas - I can't wait to see the look on his face when he opens it. Of course, after making this large purchase I will have to stick to my D100 .... well for a little while longer. May consider the D700 next. May I also say you couldn't have picked a better place than New York to test this out. I was there in Sept and took over 1,000 pics with my D100. Can't wait to go back. I hope my son has much enjoyment from this camera.
