It’s our little secret…
Those of you who endeavour to keep abreast of photographic news, gossip and technological developments will not have failed to miss the tantalising teaser campaign from Olympus over the past weeks. But just what is under that slightly naughty looking, red satin cloth…
Amateur Photographer recently printed that the new Micro Four Thirds camera “will resemble the legendary Olympus Pen half-frame camera”, which has only added fuel to the fire of anticipation surrounding the camera’s unveiling later this month.
The words “Envy” and “Jealousy” litter the Olympus adverts, with the curiousity inducing line “emotions can run high when you possess something beautiful and others don’t.”
So just how retro, just how Pen-like, just how God-damn cool is this new model going to be? We only wish we knew.
Apparently though, we don’t have much longer to wait…

Well, I wrote to Olympus in Japan nearly five years ago now, suggesting exactly this; why on earth were we still lugging all this flapping mirrors, and chunks of glass pentaprism around in the 21st Century, and how light and tiny the resulting camera could be if they were prepared to make the leap ?
I promised them I’d buy one if they did it !
Steven Walker- so perhaps are these years of “pondering inscrutably” the penny has finally dropped ?
Of course, if they have done everything I suggested; there should be no surprises about the appearance; it will come out of the box looking exactly like an OM1 – with a Tv/Av control collar round the lens and everything ! Jobs ‘a good-un !
Leaked picture has been posted for a few days now at seriouscompacts.com – it looks to be definitely styled after the PEN FT.
wolfieThe EP-1 has been unveiled:
