Today Nikon announced the Launch of their latest digital SLR camera, the D7000. As always, rumours of this camera had been abound for months, debating what it may or may not feature and where it would fit in the Nikon line-up. So what does the D7000 offer, how does it measure up to its peers, and why should you care? Let’s have a look…

Today Canon have announced the launch of their new enthusiasts SLR camera – the Canon EOS 60D, and I’m lucky enough to have been invited to Canon HQ in Reigate to get some hands-on time with the new EOS on the very morning of its launch. This is nothing short of an exclusive!

On the surface, they look much like any of Sony’s other Alpha SLR cameras, with only a few aesthetic tweaks, additions and changes to set them apart. But who said the camera never lies? Looks, after all, can be deceiving, and if the A33 and A55 look to you just like any other SLR, then the deception is complete.

On Thursday 19th August Nikon announced the release of their new entry level digital SLR – the D3100. Designed and created as a replacement for the best selling Nikon D3000, the latest offering from Nikon is actually far more of an improvement on its predecessor than their names suggest.

The new Canon EOS 550D has arrived just 11 months after the 500D was announced and it’s packing an impressive list of features that are sure to cause a stir in the sub-£1000 digital SLR market. Borrowing components from the EOS 7D and bolstering the video credentials makes the 550D an attractive option for enthusiasts looking to upgrade.

The new Sony Alpha A450 digital SLR has arrived in our inbox just 4 months after the A500, A550 and A850 were announced, reinforcing the message that Sony are committed to taking a serious share of the DSLR market. The latest member of the Sony Alpha family is a cut-down version of the A550 – offering 14 megapixels, SteadyShot image stabilisation and up to 7fps continuous shooting.

The new Canon EOS 1D Mark IV is described by its maker as “a high-speed multimedia performance monster” and it’s clearly aiming for a battle with the Nikon D3s announced 6 days ago. The EOS 1D Mark IV boasts a new 16 megapixel CMOS sensor (APS-H, 1.3x crop) and dual DIGIC 4 processors which can keep up with the flurry of data that 121 JPEGs at 10 frames per second will deliver.

Take a look at these Nikon D3s sample images and prepare to be amazed! The high-ISO D3s images certainly backup Nikon’s claims of unparalleled low-light performance; the noise is well under control at ISO 12,800.

Yes you read the headline correctly – the new Nikon D3s has an ISO range maxing out at 102,400 (HI-3) and in our books that makes it a bit of wild child. The ‘S’ designation isn’t just a quick slap & dash adding D-movie mode though. 720p HD video capture is included, but the D3s also offers serious refinements for professional photographers.
