This year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is kicking off in Las Vegas with over 2,500 exhibitors aiming to woo visitors with the latest & greatest technology. Amongst the widescreen TVs, games consoles and super skinny laptops there are plenty of digital cameras – although it’s suspiciously quiet on the digital SLR & lenses front so far.

Casio are bucking the trend of boring camera design; the new Exilim G1 is a rugged digital camera with heavy style influences from their G-Shock watches. The tank-like appearance is a good indicator of the G1’s tough credentials. The Casio EX-G1 is capable of withstanding 2.13 metre drops, is waterproof up to 3 metres deep and freeze-proof until the mercury hits minus 10° Celsius.

If you’re already excited about the new Canon PowerShot G11 and S90 then take a look at this: Full resolution PowerShot G11 and S90 sample images have just been released. The samples are all taken at ISO 80, so we can’t tell how good Canon’s new Dual Anti-Noise System will be, but both sets of sample images are very impressive for compact digital cameras…
