This year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is kicking off in Las Vegas with over 2,500 exhibitors aiming to woo visitors with the latest & greatest technology. Amongst the widescreen TVs, games consoles and super skinny laptops there are plenty of digital cameras – although it’s suspiciously quiet on the digital SLR & lenses front so far.

Samsung have launched a new mirrorless camera called the NX10 and three NX-mount lenses to match; a 30mm f2 pancake, 18-55mm OIS (Optical Image Stabiliser) & 50-200mm OIS zoom lens. The fundamental features of the NX system are similar to the Micro Four Thirds system…

Casio are bucking the trend of boring camera design; the new Exilim G1 is a rugged digital camera with heavy style influences from their G-Shock watches. The tank-like appearance is a good indicator of the G1’s tough credentials. The Casio EX-G1 is capable of withstanding 2.13 metre drops, is waterproof up to 3 metres deep and freeze-proof until the mercury hits minus 10° Celsius.

The Ricoh GXR is new camera with the world’s best party trick; interchangeable ‘lens and sensor’ units, each pairing tailored for different scenarios. On Sunday you may fancy a woodland walk, so a 50mm macro lens with a 12MP APS-C size sensor is called for. Then before you know it Monday morning springs up, but there’s still time to capture a street scene on your way to work with a slim 24-70mm & 10MP CCD unit.

The Olympus E-P1 ‘Digital PEN’ was launched with a great fanfare – an exciting new segment of cameras had arrived. Then the Panasonic GF1 arrived and dethroned the Digital PEN. The response from Olympus, less than 5 months after the E-P1 was launched (16th June), is the new E-P2.

The Panasonic GF1 is a new micro four-thirds camera that sports a 12 megapixel sensor, 720p HD video mode, and 3-inch LCD screen. This gorgeous little camera appears to be a crossover between the retro-chic Olympus E-P1 and the Panasonic G1 digital SLR. If you’re already excited about the new Canon PowerShot G11 and S90 then take a look at this: Full resolution PowerShot G11 and S90 sample images have just been released. The samples are all taken at ISO 80, so we can’t tell how good Canon’s new Dual Anti-Noise System will be, but both sets of sample images are very impressive for compact digital cameras…

We’re not sure if its duck hunting season but joining the flock of new Canons is the latest digital camera from Ricoh: The CX2. The new Ricoh CX2 digital camera features a 28-300mm f3.5-5.6 lens, 9.29 megapixel CMOS sensor, and speedy 5 frames per second continuous shooting.

The new Canon IXUS 200 IS digital camera has just been revealed and it looks stunning. The stylish metal body wraps up a 3 inch LCD touch screen, ultra wide-angle 24-120mm image stabilised lens, and 12.1 megapixel CCD sensor.
