If you’re looking for a beginner’s way in to digital SLR photography, then any of the entry level offerings from Canon, Nikon, Pentax or Sony will suit your needs. Depending on what compact camera you have been using, there may be some advantages in sticking to the same brand as functions and menu layouts are likely to be similar. In terms of being able to take faster shoots and images in low light, the lens you get will make quite a difference. Starter SLR kits tend to come with standard zoom lenses, but a 50mm f1.8 prime lens won’t cost a huge amount extra and will really open some doors in terms of the type of photography you are talking about.

I need SLR camera recommendations. Thinking about taking a step up from my current situation and shoot digital camera. On a recent travel I got it clear that my oldcamera is just outdated when shooting distant landscape and nighttime shots. I’m no way a pro photo reporter, so I can’t really afford threwing a lot of cash on a fancy camera, but I want to buy something that gives me a lil more versatility, has a wide range zoom and a decent shutter speed so I have the optiom of taking fast pics. Can someone give me some adwise? I’d like to do preliminary shopping review but not sure much where to begin with. Thank you!

Hi Mr Jones, The Canon G10 is no longer available I'm afraid. Canon have upgraded this model to the Canon G11, which you can buy now for £445 and it will be delivered before Christmas. Our last order day is 22nd December for delivery on the 23rd, or you can order before the 17th December for free delivery.
