Hi NoHands,

Both the 550D & 7D can record 1080p with selectable frame rates, full manual control and stereo microphone input – so they should be very similar. There may be minor quality differences because the sensors aren’t identical – the Dpreview hands-on preview indicates the 550D’s 18.7mp sensor is slightly different.

It looks fantastic – 24fps video is great, masses of possible space, small and light, external mic – really, its a photojournalists camera for video. Smaller than a video camera, with the option of good images (hopefully). Looks good for travelling as well, and if i didn’t already have a 50D, I might have considered it. I just hope it does well – because that way the features will filter through to the next upgrade for the XXD range of cameras. And maybe, just maybe, a 1Ds MKiV or 5D Mk III with 24fps video, ideal for proper movie production.

Lets hope it can take good pics with 18.7mp on a tiny Canon APS-C sensor.
